Deputy alternative
Looking for a Deputy alternative without the enterprise feature load?
Kangaroo Clock is the simple time tracker for small teams, none of Deputy's enterprise bundle, none of the per-seat pricing.
Updated June 2026
What Deputy does well
Deputy is a real mid-market workforce-management platform. The scheduling engine is powerful, the demand-forecasting tools are useful for retail and hospitality, the API and SSO support fit larger operations. If your business has the complexity that Deputy is built for, 100+ employees across multiple locations, complex shift rules, integrated payroll and HR, Deputy is a defensible enterprise-grade choice.
Kangaroo Clock vs Deputy at a glance
High-level capability comparison. For exact pricing and feature checklists, check Deputy's site, it stays more current than anything we'd cache here.
| Capability | Deputy | Kangaroo Clock |
|---|---|---|
| Target operation size | Mid-market workforce management (50-1000+ employees). | Small teams (3-100 workers). Volunteer programs, restaurants, event crews. |
| Feature surface area | Scheduling + time tracking + HR + payroll + demand forecasting + ... | Time tracking. Nothing else. |
| Pricing model | Per-seat tiers ($4.50+/user/mo + add-ons). | Flat pricing (free at launch). |
| Sales motion | Sales-assisted for upper tiers. | Self-serve. Sign up, pick a clock-in mode, done. |
| SSO / SAML | Available on enterprise tiers. | Not in scope for v1. Magic-link admin auth only. |
Where Kangaroo Clock fits instead
Deputy was built for a bigger business than Kangaroo Clock's target customer. If you're a 20-person restaurant or a 50-volunteer nonprofit looking at Deputy because you've outgrown spreadsheets, you'll find a lot of product you don't need, and a per-seat bill that scales with your roster.
Kangaroo Clock is the version sized for the small-team workflow: tap-driven kiosk, QR poster, personal links, clean CSV out. Nothing to configure beyond names and tags. No sales call required.
You should stay with Deputy if…
Stay with Deputy if you genuinely operate at the scale Deputy is built for, multi-location operations, complex shift rules, demand forecasting needs, enterprise compliance requirements. Deputy is also better if you need integrated payroll and HR in one platform.
Common questions
Will Kangaroo Clock add SSO / SAML?
Not in v1. If enterprise demand emerges later, we'll evaluate, but our segment is small teams that don't need SSO.
Can Kangaroo Clock handle 200+ workers?
Yes, the worker list scales fine, and worker groups let you scope the kiosk picker so it stays usable. Pricing tiers (when they come) will be banded by worker count, not per-seat.
Does Kangaroo Clock have an API?
Not in v1. CSV export is the integration surface. An API is planned for v2 if real customer demand emerges.
