Roster
A roster is the list of workers, paid staff, volunteers, contractors, that an organization tracks. In time-tracking systems, the roster is the master record of who can clock in.
The roster is the foundational data in any time-tracking system: until someone is on the roster, they can't be tracked. Roster management is therefore the first operational concern when adopting a time tracker, getting the right people added, deactivating people who leave, keeping contact info current.
Common roster operations:
- Add a new worker (typed name, optional email and phone)
- Import a roster in bulk (CSV upload, or via integration with a signup tool)
- Archive someone who's no longer with the organization (keeps their historical hours data but removes them from active lists)
- Group workers (by program, by location, by role) for easier filtering
The terminology varies: roster, team, staff list, member list. The concept is the same. Kangaroo Clock lets each workspace pick its preferred term, "Workers," "Volunteers," "Staff," "Crew," etc., which then appears throughout the UI.
