Tracking tutor sessions for payroll
Tutoring centers have a specific time-tracking shape that doesn't fit most tools cleanly: a small number of part-time tutors (5-30), each working a handful of hours per week, paid hourly via payroll, often working with rotating subjects or programs.
The session as the unit
The natural unit isn't a shift, it's a session. A tutor arrives, works with one or more students for some number of minutes, and leaves. Kangaroo Clock's tap-in/tap-out model maps directly: tutor taps their name on the front-desk tablet on arrival, taps again on departure.
If you split tutor work by program (math, reading, test prep) or by funding source (scholarship program vs paid sessions), create tags for each and tutors pick the tag at clock-in. The reports page filters by tag, so payroll allocations by funding source are a one-click pull.
Personal links for traveling tutors
Some tutoring centers send tutors to client sites or partner schools. The shared tablet doesn't help in that case. Each tutor has a personal clock-in URL (rotatable from their profile) they can bookmark on their phone. Same tap-in/tap-out, just on a phone browser instead of the tablet.
What gets sent to payroll
At pay day, export the CSV with date range filtered to your pay period. Each row has tutor name + email, tag, start and end times, duration in hours and seconds. Format stays the same forever, once your payroll provider accepts the file, it won't break on you.
The auto-close protection catches forgotten clock-outs (every tutoring center has had one of these). Sessions older than your configured cutoff cap automatically and land in the review queue, you confirm or adjust before they go to payroll.
