QR clock-in is a time-tracking method in which workers scan a posted QR code with their phone camera to land on a personal clock-in page. After the first scan, the page is remembered on the phone for one-tap future visits.

QR clock-in solves a specific problem: how do you onboard a new worker to a time tracker in 30 seconds, with no app install and no account creation? Print a QR code on a poster, post it at the entrance, and workers scan it with their phone's built-in camera. The first scan walks them through picking their name from the roster. From then on, the page is cookie-bookmarked to their phone, one tap to clock in, one tap to clock out.

QR clock-in is especially useful in three situations: large events with many volunteers most of whom you'll only see once; drop-in volunteer or service contexts where there's no shared device to use as a kiosk; and outdoor or distributed sites where a posted QR is more practical than carrying a tablet around.

Limitations: requires a smartphone, and requires the worker to allow camera access. For volunteers without smartphones, fall back to a shared kiosk-mode tablet.
