Kiosk vs QR vs Personal Links for Clock-In

The tradeoff is the line. One tablet is one lane. If eight event crew arrive at 7:59, they queue. Tapping a name is fast, so the queue clears in under a minute, but it is a queue. The other cost is the device itself: you buy or repurpose one tablet, mount it, and keep it charged. When that is done, the kiosk is the most reliable of the three because nothing depends on the worker's own hardware.

QR sign-in: post it in as many places as you need
A QR code is a printed sheet on a wall. A worker scans it with their own phone camera, taps their name on the page that opens, and they are clocked in. The advantage over the kiosk is that a piece of paper costs nothing to duplicate. Post one at the loading dock, one at the volunteer tent, one at the second-floor classroom. Three entrances, three sheets, no second tablet.
QR also beats the kiosk on line speed during a rush because everyone uses their own phone at once. Ten people scanning ten phones do not form a single line. For an outdoor event with people streaming in from a parking lot, that parallelism is the whole point.
The tradeoff is the phone requirement, which is the mirror image of the kiosk. No phone, no scan. And a printed code is copyable: someone could photograph the sheet and clock in from home. Personal links: for work you cannot see
A personal link is a private URL that belongs to one worker. They bookmark it, and one tap clocks them in from anywhere. There is no shared device and no posted code, which makes this the only option that works when the worker is not at your location. A canvasser going door to door, a delivery volunteer, a tutor meeting a student at a library: they clock themselves.
The cost is that off-site clock-in is on the honor system. You cannot watch a remote worker the way you can watch a kiosk at your own door, and Kangaroo Clock will never add location tracking or screenshots to close that gap.
